Commiphora species, most notably Commiphora mukul (guggul) and related resins, have a long history of traditional use in Ayurvedic and other traditional medical systems, primarily for their anti-inflammatory, analgesic, and metabolic effects. There is some evidence from traditional sources that Commiphora resins were occasionally used in herbal mixtures intended to promote relaxation or address sleep disturbances, largely as part of multi-herb formulations. However, there is no clear, consistent, or direct traditional use of Commiphora as a primary remedy for insomnia. Furthermore, scientific studies evaluating Commiphora or its active constituents for insomnia or sleep disorders are lacking. The available clinical and preclinical research focuses on other health indications, such as lipid management, arthritis, and inflammation, rather than sleep.
