Rating (out of 5): 2

Hyperoside is a flavonoid glycoside found in various medicinal plants, such as Hypericum perforatum (St. John's Wort) and Crataegus species. Its use in supporting or treating influenza is primarily grounded in scientific investigation, though the evidence base is limited and largely preclinical. Several in vitro studies have demonstrated that hyperoside exhibits antiviral activity against influenza viruses by inhibiting viral replication and modulating the host immune response. For example, research published in Antiviral Research (2018) reported that hyperoside inhibited the replication of influenza A virus in cell cultures, possibly through suppression of viral RNA synthesis and interference with the viral life cycle. Additionally, it has demonstrated anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties, which may contribute to alleviating symptoms associated with viral infections. However, there are currently no published clinical trials in humans that directly assess the efficacy of hyperoside for the prevention or treatment of influenza. The available evidence supporting its use is thus restricted to laboratory and animal studies, with uncertain relevance to human health outcomes. Consequently, while there is some scientific rationale for further research, current evidence does not robustly support the clinical use of hyperoside for influenza in humans.
