Oroxylum indicum, commonly known as the Indian trumpet tree, has a documented history of traditional use in Ayurveda for various ailments, including infections. More recently, scientific investigations have explored its antibacterial properties. Several in vitro studies have demonstrated that extracts from different parts of Oroxylum indicum (especially the bark and seeds) possess moderate antibacterial activity against a range of bacterial strains, including Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, and Pseudomonas aeruginosa. The antibacterial effects are attributed to the presence of flavonoids (such as baicalein and oroxylin A), phenolic compounds, and other phytochemicals with known bioactive properties.

However, the majority of research is preclinical (laboratory-based), and there is a lack of robust clinical trials in humans that directly establish Oroxylum indicum as an effective treatment for bacterial infections. The evidence for traditional use supports its application in infection-related conditions, but scientific validation is primarily limited to laboratory studies rather than clinical efficacy. Thus, while there is a scientific basis for its antibacterial potential, the overall quality and quantity of evidence remain limited, justifying a moderate evidence score.
