Rating (out of 5): 2

Varuna (Crataeva nurvala) is a medicinal plant widely used in traditional Ayurvedic medicine, particularly for its effects on the liver and urinary system. Traditionally, Varuna has been employed as part of polyherbal formulations to support liver health and treat various hepatic conditions, including jaundice and hepatitis. Its use for hepatitis is primarily rooted in Ayurvedic texts, where it is described as having properties that help "remove obstruction from channels," alleviate inflammation, and improve liver function. However, direct scientific studies specifically examining Varuna's efficacy for hepatitis in humans are very limited. Some in vitro and animal studies suggest Varuna possesses hepatoprotective, anti-inflammatory, and antioxidant activities, which could theoretically support its use in liver diseases. Yet, these findings are preliminary and have not been validated in robust clinical trials for hepatitis. Most of the available evidence is anecdotal or based on traditional usage rather than modern scientific research. In summary, Varuna's use for hepatitis is justified mainly by tradition, with only modest experimental support and a lack of high-quality clinical evidence.
