Rehmannia (Rehmannia glutinosa) is a key herb in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) and has been historically used to support liver health and treat conditions such as hepatitis. In TCM, Rehmannia is often included in formulas aimed at "nourishing yin" and "cooling the blood," which are believed to help with liver inflammation and damage. Some classic formulas containing Rehmannia, such as Liu Wei Di Huang Wan and Yin Chen Hao Tang, have been used for centuries for various liver-related ailments, including jaundice and hepatitis-like symptoms.

However, scientific validation for Rehmannia’s efficacy in treating hepatitis is limited. A few preclinical studies suggest that Rehmannia extracts may have anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties, and some animal studies have shown hepatoprotective effects. Nevertheless, these findings are preliminary, and robust clinical trials in humans with hepatitis are lacking. The majority of support for using Rehmannia in hepatitis comes from its traditional use in TCM rather than from high-quality scientific evidence. Therefore, while Rehmannia is commonly used in traditional settings for liver support and hepatitis, its effectiveness for this condition remains largely unproven by modern scientific standards.
