Rating (out of 5): 2

Mum (also known as "Mumiyo" or "Shilajit") has a long-standing history of use in traditional medicine systems, especially in Ayurveda and traditional folk medicine in Central Asia and the Middle East. It is a natural exudate that seeps from rocks in high mountain ranges and is composed of organic plant material, minerals, and other compounds. Traditionally, Mum has been used for a variety of ailments, including digestive disorders, wound healing, and as a general tonic. Its application for hemorrhoids is primarily based on its reputed anti-inflammatory, wound-healing, and mild analgesic properties. In folk and some Unani medicine practices, Mum is either applied topically or taken orally to reduce hemorrhoidal swelling, soothe pain, and promote healing.

However, while there is anecdotal and traditional support for its use, scientific validation is limited. Some laboratory studies have demonstrated anti-inflammatory and tissue-repair properties of Shilajit extracts, but there are no robust clinical trials specifically investigating its efficacy for hemorrhoids in humans. Thus, while the traditional use is established, modern scientific confirmation and clinical guidelines are lacking. The evidence rating is 2, reflecting some plausible laboratory data but an absence of high-quality clinical studies directly supporting its use in hemorrhoids.
