Synopsis

Source of validity: Traditional
Rating (out of 5): 2

Shilajit has a long-standing history of use in traditional Ayurvedic and Unani medicine, where it is often prescribed as a "Rasayana"—a rejuvenative tonic—for promoting vitality and general well-being, which sometimes extends to supporting heart health and treating symptoms described as "heart weakness." Traditional texts describe Shilajit as a substance that enhances energy, stamina, and resilience, occasionally referencing benefits for the cardiovascular system, such as improving circulation and reducing fatigue associated with cardiac insufficiency.

However, direct references to the use of Shilajit specifically for heart weakness (as understood in modern medical terms, such as heart failure or cardiomyopathy) are limited in classical texts. Its use is more broadly defined under conditions of general debility, weakness, or lack of vitality, which can be interpreted to include symptoms related to heart weakness.

Scientific research on Shilajit’s effects on heart health is still in its early stages. Some animal studies suggest antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties that may theoretically benefit cardiovascular function, but robust clinical trials in humans are lacking. Therefore, while tradition supports its use for general vitality and possibly heart weakness, scientific validation is currently insufficient, and the evidence level is low.
