Synopsis

Source of validity: Traditional
Rating (out of 5): 2

Bovine heart and related extracts have a traditional history of use in some forms of natural and organotherapy-based medicine to support heart health or treat symptoms of "heart weakness." This practice, sometimes called "like supports like," is rooted in the concept of organotherapy, which emerged in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Proponents believed that consuming animal organ tissues could strengthen or heal the corresponding organ in humans. Bovine heart was sometimes used in this way, particularly in European naturopathic and homeopathic traditions. However, the rationale for its use is largely based on historical or anecdotal beliefs rather than robust scientific evidence. There is minimal clinical research specifically examining the efficacy of bovine heart or its extracts for treating heart weakness or other cardiovascular conditions in humans. While bovine heart contains nutrients such as Coenzyme Q10, B vitamins, and certain peptides that are important for cardiac function, there is no direct scientific validation that consuming bovine heart improves heart health or treats heart weakness in humans. Modern medicine does not recognize organotherapy as an effective treatment for heart conditions. The evidence supporting bovine heart for "heart weakness" is thus primarily traditional, and rated at 2 out of 5, reflecting some historical precedent but little or no scientific backing.
