Evidence supporting the use of: Mountain mahogany
For the health condition: Headache (tension)
Synopsis
Source of validity: Traditional
Rating (out of 5): 1
Mountain mahogany (Cercocarpus spp.) has a limited tradition of use in Native American herbal medicine, but there is scant documentation specifically connecting it to the treatment of tension headaches. Some ethnobotanical sources mention that mountain mahogany was used by certain Native tribes for various ailments, including as an astringent or for wound care, but references to its use for headache (tension) are rare and not well-documented. There are no known clinical trials or robust scientific studies supporting its efficacy for headache relief, and it is not recognized in modern herbal pharmacopeias for this indication. The association between mountain mahogany and tension headaches is therefore based primarily on limited or anecdotal traditional uses rather than scientific validation. As such, the evidence supporting its use for tension headaches is very weak.
