Synopsis

Source of validity: Traditional
Rating (out of 5): 1

Bael (Aegle marmelos) is a plant with a long history of use in traditional Ayurvedic medicine, primarily for digestive disorders, diarrhea, and as a general tonic. Its application for headaches, particularly tension headaches, is not widely documented in scientific literature, nor is it a prominent traditional remedy for this specific condition. However, some traditional sources and folk practices mention Bael’s use to alleviate general pain or discomfort, which may incidentally include headaches. The fruit and leaves are sometimes used in poultices or infusions intended to provide a cooling or calming effect, which could theoretically help with tension headaches. Despite these occasional references, there is a lack of robust historical documentation or pharmacological studies directly supporting Bael’s efficacy for tension headaches.

No clinical trials or significant pharmacological studies have evaluated Bael specifically for headache relief. The plant contains compounds with anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties, which may offer general supportive roles in health, but direct evidence for headache management is lacking. Therefore, while Bael’s use for tension headaches is rooted in minimal traditional practice, there is little substantive evidence—scientific or historical—to robustly support this use.
