Honeysuckle (Lonicera spp.) has a long history of use in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), where it is referred to as "Jin Yin Hua." In TCM, honeysuckle is commonly used for its purported "heat-clearing" and detoxifying properties. It is an ingredient in several classical formulas designed to treat symptoms associated with the common cold, influenza, and sinusitis—conditions frequently accompanied by headaches, especially of the sinus type. The rationale for its use is largely based on its supposed ability to "dispel wind-heat" and relieve inflammation in the upper respiratory tract.

However, there is limited direct scientific evidence specifically supporting honeysuckle for the treatment of sinus headaches. Some laboratory studies have identified anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial compounds in honeysuckle, which may theoretically contribute to symptom relief in infections that cause sinus headaches. Clinical data, however, is scarce and mostly limited to studies of multi-herbal combinations, making it difficult to isolate the effects of honeysuckle alone. Therefore, while its use for sinus-related headaches is well-established in traditional practices, robust scientific validation is lacking.
