Flavonoid glycosides are a class of plant-derived compounds found in a variety of medicinal herbs and foods, and their use in treating headaches is primarily rooted in traditional medicine. Many herbal remedies historically used for headaches, such as Ginkgo biloba and feverfew, contain flavonoid glycosides, and these compounds have been credited with contributing to the herbs' therapeutic effects. Traditional systems often attribute their benefits to anti-inflammatory, vasodilatory, and antioxidant properties, which are believed to help alleviate headache symptoms. However, the direct evidence linking flavonoid glycosides alone to headache relief is limited. Most scientific studies focus on whole-plant extracts rather than isolated flavonoid glycosides, and while some animal and in vitro research suggests possible mechanisms (such as modulation of blood flow or reduction of oxidative stress), robust clinical evidence in humans is lacking.
