Arisaema (commonly known as Jack-in-the-pulpit or cobra lily) is a genus used in traditional medicine, especially within Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and Ayurveda. In TCM, species such as Arisaema erubescens (Tian Nan Xing) are used to "dispel wind-phlegm" and "open the orifices," traditionally addressing symptoms like dizziness, convulsions, and sometimes headache—usually those associated with "phlegm-obstruction" syndromes. However, documentation specifically supporting the use of Arisaema for general headache is limited. The references in the classical TCM texts often mention its use in broader neurological and respiratory conditions rather than headaches alone. There is also a lack of robust clinical or pharmacological studies validating Arisaema's effectiveness for headache relief in the biomedical literature.
