Peach (Prunus persica) has a longstanding place in East Asian traditional medicine, including Chinese, Korean, and Japanese practices, as a remedy for hangover symptoms. Historical texts and folk remedies often recommend consuming fresh peach, peach juice, or peach leaf tea to alleviate discomfort following alcohol consumption. The rationale in traditional medicine is generally based on the belief that peach promotes detoxification, supports liver function, and soothes the digestive system. However, these recommendations are grounded in empirical observation and cultural transmission rather than in scientific investigation.

Scientific research into the efficacy of peach for hangover relief is limited. There are a few laboratory studies suggesting that certain compounds in peach, such as antioxidants, phenolics, and vitamins, may help protect liver cells from oxidative stress. However, there is currently no robust clinical evidence directly supporting the use of peach to treat or prevent hangover symptoms in humans. The available evidence is therefore largely anecdotal and traditional, rather than evidence-based. As a result, while peach is recognized in some traditional systems for this use, its effectiveness remains unproven by modern scientific standards.
