Vitamin E has a long-standing reputation in traditional and popular culture as a beneficial ingredient for hair care. It is commonly included in shampoos, conditioners, oils, and serums, often with claims that it can promote hair growth, reduce hair loss, and improve hair strength and shine. The basis for its traditional use stems from its antioxidant properties, which are believed to help protect the scalp and hair follicles from oxidative stress and damage caused by free radicals. Additionally, vitamin E oil is thought to improve scalp circulation, thereby supporting healthier hair growth. However, scientific evidence supporting these claims is limited. A few small studies and anecdotal reports suggest that vitamin E supplementation may benefit people with specific hair loss conditions, such as alopecia, but robust clinical trials are lacking. Most of the purported benefits are based on animal studies, laboratory experiments, or the general knowledge that antioxidants can protect cells from damage. As a result, while vitamin E continues to be widely used in hair care products due to its perceived benefits and traditional support, its efficacy for general hair care is not strongly validated by scientific research.
