Evidence supporting the use of: Peucedanum
For the health condition: Glands (swollen lymph)
Synopsis
Source of validity: Traditional
Rating (out of 5): 1
Peucedanum, a genus in the Apiaceae family, has a long history of use in traditional medicine systems, particularly in Asia and Europe. In Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), species such as Peucedanum praeruptorum are known as "Qian Hu" and have been utilized to "disperse wind-heat" and "resolve phlegm," which can be interpreted as treating respiratory issues and potentially addressing swollen lymph glands indirectly by reducing inflammation and infections. However, the direct use of Peucedanum specifically for "swollen lymph glands" is not widely documented in classical herbal texts; most references pertain to its expectorant, anti-inflammatory, and antitussive properties.
Scientific evidence supporting Peucedanum for treating swollen lymph nodes is very limited. Some studies suggest Peucedanum species contain coumarins and other compounds with anti-inflammatory and immunomodulatory effects, but these have not been specifically linked to the treatment of lymphadenopathy (swollen lymph glands) in controlled clinical trials. The use of Peucedanum for this condition is therefore rooted primarily in traditional herbal practice, and not substantiated by strong clinical research. Consequently, it should be approached with caution, and healthcare professionals should be consulted for persistent or unexplained lymph node swelling.
