Its use in supporting or treating free radical damage has some scientific basis, though the evidence is limited and primarily preclinical. The rationale for its use centers on the known antioxidant properties of ascorbic acid and the role of copper as a cofactor for antioxidant enzymes such as superoxide dismutase (SOD). In vitro studies have demonstrated that both copper and vitamin C can participate in redox reactions and potentially reduce oxidative stress. Some laboratory and animal studies suggest that the combination of these two may have synergistic effects in scavenging free radicals and protecting biomolecules from oxidative damage.

However, human clinical evidence is sparse. Most available research focuses on the antioxidant effects of vitamin C or copper individually, rather than the cupric ascorbate complex specifically. There are limited studies that directly assess the efficacy or safety of cupric ascorbate supplementation in humans for the prevention or treatment of free radical damage.
