Evidence supporting the use of: Royal jelly
For the body system: Female Reproductive System
Synopsis
Source of validity: Traditional
Rating (out of 5): 2
Royal jelly has been used traditionally, especially in East Asian countries, as a tonic to support female reproductive health, including fertility, hormonal balance, and menstrual regularity. In traditional medicine, royal jelly has been considered a nourishing substance that supports overall vitality and reproductive function. However, scientific validation for these uses is limited. Some animal studies suggest that royal jelly may influence estrogen levels, ovarian function, or menstrual cycles, but well-designed human clinical trials are lacking. A few small studies in women have reported potential benefits for alleviating symptoms of premenstrual syndrome (PMS) and menopause, but the sample sizes are small and the quality of evidence is generally low. Currently, there is not enough robust scientific evidence to conclusively support its effectiveness for female reproductive health, but its traditional use persists in various cultures. Until more rigorous human research is conducted, royal jelly's role in supporting the female reproductive system remains primarily based on traditional rather than scientific grounds.
