In TCM, cordyceps is believed to nourish the kidneys and enhance yang energy, both of which are associated with male sexual performance and vigor in traditional frameworks. Historical records and materia medica texts describe its use for symptoms consistent with modern descriptions of ED, such as decreased libido and impotence.
From a scientific standpoint, the evidence supporting cordyceps for ED is limited and mostly preliminary.
