Citrulline silicate is a compound that combines L-citrulline, an amino acid, with silicate. L-citrulline is known to increase nitric oxide (NO) production via the L-arginine–NO pathway, leading to vasodilation, which can theoretically support erectile function by improving blood flow to the penis. Several small clinical studies have shown that L-citrulline supplementation may have modest benefits in men with mild to moderate erectile dysfunction (ED), generally improving erection hardness and satisfaction compared to placebo. However, these studies are limited in size and duration, and the effects are generally less robust than those observed with phosphodiesterase-5 inhibitors (such as sildenafil). There is very limited direct research on citrulline silicate specifically for ED. Most available data pertain to L-citrulline or citrulline malate. The rationale for using the silicate form is that it may enhance bioavailability or provide additional vascular benefits, but published human studies on this specific compound for ED are lacking as of June 2024. Therefore, while the use is grounded in plausible biological mechanisms and extrapolation from related compounds, robust clinical validation for citrulline silicate as a treatment for erectile dysfunction is currently insufficient.
