San-Qi Ginseng, also known as Panax notoginseng, has a long history of use in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) for a variety of health concerns, including supporting energy and reducing fatigue. In TCM, San-Qi is classified as a herb that invigorates blood, resolves blood stasis, and is thought to "tonify" Qi (vital energy), which is believed to contribute to increased stamina and reduced tiredness. Historical texts and modern TCM practitioners often recommend notoginseng for individuals with weakness, fatigue, and general lack of vitality, especially during recovery from illness or blood loss.
However, while there is a wealth of traditional support for its use in enhancing energy, the scientific evidence specifically linking San-Qi Ginseng to improved energy or reduced fatigue in humans is limited and less robust compared to other ginseng species (such as Panax ginseng). Some laboratory and animal studies have explored notoginsenosides (active compounds in San-Qi) and their effects on physical endurance and anti-fatigue properties, but human clinical trials are sparse, and most research focuses on other effects, such as cardiovascular or anti-inflammatory benefits.
