Inositol-stabilized arginine silicate (often marketed as Nitrosigine®) is an ingredient found in some sports nutrition supplements. There is some scientific evidence suggesting it may support aspects of energy and performance, primarily through its role in enhancing nitric oxide (NO) production. NO promotes vasodilation, which may improve blood flow and the delivery of oxygen and nutrients to muscles during exercise. Several small clinical trials have examined its effects, mostly in the context of exercise performance. One randomized controlled trial (RCT) found that supplementation with inositol-stabilized arginine silicate improved subjective energy levels and reduced perceived fatigue in healthy adults after acute exercise sessions (Rood-Ojalvo et al., 2018). Other studies have reported improved cognitive flexibility and reaction time post-exercise (Kalman et al., 2015), which may indirectly relate to perceived energy. However, the number of studies is limited, sample sizes are small, and most research is funded by ingredient manufacturers. There is no substantial evidence for benefits in populations with pathological fatigue or chronic low energy, and longer-term effects are unknown. Overall, while initial data suggest a potential benefit for exercise-related energy and reduced fatigue, the quality and quantity of evidence are moderate at best, warranting a rating of 2 out of 5.
