Catecholamines, such as dopamine, norepinephrine, and epinephrine, are endogenous neurotransmitters and hormones that play a critical role in regulating the body's response to stress and energy expenditure. Clinically, catecholamines or their pharmacological analogs (e.g., epinephrine, norepinephrine, dobutamine) are used to manage acute conditions such as shock, cardiac arrest, and severe hypotension, where they support cardiovascular function and increase alertness and energy levels acutely. There is robust scientific evidence that these compounds can rapidly improve energy, alertness, and physical capacity in acute medical settings by stimulating the sympathetic nervous system, increasing heart rate, blood pressure, and mobilizing energy stores (glycogenolysis, lipolysis). However, this use is limited to acute, severe medical conditions under clinical supervision, rather than for chronic or general fatigue. There is little evidence to support the use of catecholamines for everyday fatigue or "lack of energy" outside of these contexts, and their use is associated with significant risks and side effects. Therefore, while the scientific rationale for their use in acute energy-deficient states is strong, their application is strictly medical and not recommended for general fatigue or energy support in the general population.
