Synopsis
Source of validity: Traditional
Rating (out of 5): 1
Anamu (Petiveria alliacea) is a medicinal plant traditionally used in folk medicine in Central and South America, the Caribbean, and parts of Africa for a variety of ailments, including as a general tonic and for boosting energy. The use of Anamu to support energy or treat fatigue is primarily rooted in traditional medicine practices rather than strong scientific evidence. In traditional settings, Anamu has been used to "revitalize" the body, often in the form of teas or decoctions, and is sometimes included in herbal blends aimed at increasing stamina or reducing tiredness. However, there are very limited scientific studies directly investigating its effects on energy levels or fatigue in humans. Most research on Anamu focuses on its antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, and possible anticancer properties, with only anecdotal or indirect references to increased energy. As such, the evidence supporting Anamu’s use for energy is primarily traditional, and scientific validation for this specific use is lacking. Therefore, while Anamu is historically used for this purpose in some cultures, the quality of evidence supporting its effectiveness for energy enhancement is low.
