Synopsis

Source of validity: Traditional
Rating (out of 5): 1

Five-Leaf Cassia (Cassia pentaphylla or Senna pentaphylla) is primarily used in traditional medicine systems, particularly in Southeast Asia and India. In these traditions, the plant is sometimes employed as a general tonic or for its purported cleansing and laxative effects rather than specifically to enhance physical endurance. There is limited documentation of its use for treating or supporting endurance explicitly; most references cite its use for promoting digestion, as a mild laxative, and for skin conditions. There is little to no robust scientific research evaluating Five-Leaf Cassia’s effect on physical endurance, stamina, or fatigue. The few preclinical studies available focus on its antimicrobial, antioxidant, or anti-inflammatory properties, rather than on exercise performance or endurance. Therefore, while the use of Five-Leaf Cassia for endurance may have some basis in traditional practices as a general health-promoting herb, there is minimal historical focus on this specific application and essentially no scientific validation for this particular use. The overall evidence supporting its use for improving or supporting endurance is weak.
