Hesperidin methyl chalcone is a derivative of hesperidin, a flavonoid predominantly found in citrus fruits. Its use in supporting or treating edema, especially of venous or lymphatic origin (such as in chronic venous insufficiency), is primarily based on scientific studies conducted in Europe. Hesperidin methyl chalcone is often combined with other compounds like diosmin or rutin in formulations used to address vascular disorders and edema. Clinical evidence suggests that hesperidin methyl chalcone acts by strengthening capillaries, reducing capillary permeability, and improving lymphatic drainage, which collectively contribute to the reduction of edema. Several randomized controlled trials and meta-analyses (mostly involving combination products) have reported modest benefits in reducing leg swelling, improving symptoms like heaviness and discomfort, and enhancing the quality of life in patients with chronic venous disorders.

The European Medicines Agency and other health authorities recognize hesperidin methyl chalcone as an active ingredient in certain "vasoprotective phlebotonics." However, it should be noted that much of the clinical data involves combination therapies, making it difficult to attribute the effects solely to hesperidin methyl chalcone. Side effects are generally mild, and the compound is well tolerated.
