Synopsis

Source of validity: Scientific
Rating (out of 5): 2

Amyloban is a proprietary extract derived from the Lion’s Mane mushroom (Hericium erinaceus), specifically standardized for amyloban, a complex of amyloid-protective compounds. There is some scientific interest in Lion’s Mane for cognitive support and potential neuroprotective effects. Preclinical studies and a few small human clinical trials suggest that Lion’s Mane extracts may promote the synthesis of nerve growth factor (NGF), which is involved in the maintenance and survival of neurons. Some animal studies and pilot trials in humans have reported modest improvements in mild cognitive impairment and memory in elderly subjects when supplementing with Lion’s Mane extracts. However, high-quality, large-scale clinical trials specifically evaluating Amyloban for dementia are lacking.

The available research is preliminary and has mostly focused on general Lion’s Mane extracts rather than Amyloban itself. The evidence to date does not conclusively demonstrate that Amyloban can prevent or treat dementia, but it provides a scientific rationale for further investigation. Thus, its use is supported by limited scientific evidence rather than traditional use or complete lack of evidence. Its safety profile appears acceptable in the short term, but long-term effects and efficacy in dementia specifically remain uncertain.
