Evidence supporting the use of: Spleen Extract
For the health condition: Debility
Synopsis
Source of validity: Traditional
Rating (out of 5): 1
Spleen extract has historically been used in traditional medicine systems, particularly within early 20th-century Western naturopathic and organotherapy practices, to address general debility. The rationale was based on the "like supports like" principle, where consuming animal organ extracts was thought to strengthen the corresponding human organ or system. Spleen extract, often derived from bovine or porcine sources, was believed to support immune function, blood health, and overall vitality, as the spleen plays a role in filtering blood and supporting the immune system. However, there is minimal scientific evidence supporting these traditional uses. Most of the support for spleen extract in treating debility is anecdotal or based on outdated medical theories, rather than controlled clinical trials. Modern research on spleen extract is limited, and there are no robust studies demonstrating its efficacy for improving debility or general weakness. Regulatory agencies do not recognize spleen extract as a proven treatment for such conditions. Its use today remains largely rooted in tradition and historical practices rather than scientific validation.
