The fruit, juice, and sometimes the rind or flowers have been used as ingredients in herbal remedies aimed at soothing irritated throats and calming cough reflexes. The rationale in traditional practice is often based on the fruit's perceived astringent, anti-inflammatory, and demulcent properties, which are thought to help reduce throat irritation and thus suppress cough.
