Pomegranate (Punica granatum) is primarily used in traditional medicine for a variety of health concerns, including its use to support the lymphatic system and address congestion. In systems such as Ayurveda and traditional Persian medicine, pomegranate is considered a 'cooling' fruit and is sometimes used to help cleanse the blood, support immune function, and reduce inflammation. These properties are believed, in traditional contexts, to indirectly benefit the lymphatic system, which is responsible for fluid balance and immune defense. However, direct references to pomegranate being used specifically for "lymphatic congestion" are scarce in historical texts, and its use for this purpose is more extrapolated from its general reputation as a detoxifying and anti-inflammatory food.

Modern scientific research has focused on pomegranate’s antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and cardio-protective effects, but there is little evidence directly linking pomegranate to improved lymphatic flow or the treatment of lymphatic congestion. While its polyphenols may theoretically support overall vascular and immune health, which could be beneficial to the lymphatic system, these assumptions have not been robustly tested in clinical settings for this specific indication. Thus, while there is a traditional precedent for using pomegranate to promote cleansing and support immune health, the evidence for its use in treating lymphatic congestion is weak and largely anecdotal.
