Belleric myrobalan (Terminalia bellirica), known as "Bibhitaki" in Ayurveda, is traditionally used in Indian herbal medicine as part of the Triphala formulation. In Ayurvedic practice, Bibhitaki is believed to balance the Kapha dosha and is reputed for its roles in detoxification and supporting the respiratory system. Its traditional use for "congestion" primarily refers to respiratory or chest congestion, rather than specifically lymphatic congestion as understood in modern medicine. Some Ayurvedic texts suggest Bibhitaki can help "clear channels" and promote the healthy flow of bodily fluids, which practitioners may interpret more broadly to include lymphatic stagnation. However, explicit references to lymphatic congestion are rare in classical Ayurvedic literature.

There is very limited scientific validation for the use of Belleric myrobalan in treating lymphatic congestion. While some studies indicate that the fruit has anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties, direct research on its effects on the lymphatic system or on lymphatic congestion is lacking. Most support for its use in this context is therefore traditional, based on its general cleansing and expectorant properties as described in Ayurveda, rather than on robust clinical trials or biomedical studies.
