Vitamin B complex refers to a group of water-soluble vitamins that play important roles in cellular metabolism and brain function. B vitamins, particularly B6 (pyridoxine), B9 (folic acid), and B12 (cobalamin), are involved in the synthesis of neurotransmitters such as serotonin, dopamine, and norepinephrine, which are crucial for cognitive processes including concentration and memory. Deficiencies in these vitamins have been linked to cognitive impairment, confusion, and poor concentration, especially in elderly populations. Clinical studies have shown that supplementation with B vitamins can improve cognitive function in individuals with low baseline levels or deficiencies. However, for healthy individuals with adequate dietary intake, evidence for a significant cognitive boost from extra B vitamins is limited and inconsistent.

Systematic reviews and meta-analyses suggest that B vitamin supplementation may slow cognitive decline in certain at-risk groups, such as older adults with mild cognitive impairment or elevated homocysteine levels. However, the magnitude of effect is generally modest, and not all studies find a benefit. There is scientific rationale for the use of B vitamins in supporting concentration in cases of deficiency, but routine supplementation for cognitive enhancement in the general population is not strongly supported. Thus, the evidence is rated as moderate (2 out of 5), reflecting benefits primarily for individuals with suboptimal B vitamin status.
