Evidence supporting the use of: Lodhtree
For the health condition: Colic (children)
Synopsis
Source of validity: Traditional
Rating (out of 5): 1
Lodhtree (Symplocos racemosa), commonly known as Lodhra, has a long history of use in traditional Ayurvedic medicine. Its bark is used for a variety of ailments, especially those related to gynecological health, inflammation, and wound healing. While it is not primarily known in classical Ayurvedic texts as a remedy for colic in children, there are references in some ethnobotanical and regional traditional practices where Lodhra is included among herbal preparations for digestive upsets, which could include colic. However, direct, robust documentation of Lodhra specifically for pediatric colic is sparse, and it is not a mainstream or widely cited traditional remedy for this condition.
There is currently no scientific validation (e.g., clinical trials or pharmacological studies) demonstrating the efficacy or safety of Lodhtree in treating colic in children. Most available evidence is anecdotal or based on traditional knowledge rather than rigorous research. Therefore, the use of Lodhtree for colic in children is justified, if at all, primarily by tradition and not by modern scientific evidence, and the overall strength of evidence is weak.
