Evidence supporting the use of: Almond Oil
For the health condition: Colic (children)
Synopsis
Source of validity: Traditional
Rating (out of 5): 1
Almond oil has been traditionally used in some cultures as a massage oil for infants with colic. The practice is based on the belief that gentle abdominal massage with natural oils can help soothe the baby, relieve gas, and reduce abdominal discomfort associated with colic. However, there is very limited scientific evidence directly supporting the efficacy of almond oil itself for the treatment of colic in children. Most available studies on infant massage for colic do not differentiate between various oils and focus instead on the massage technique itself. While almond oil is generally considered safe for topical use (provided the infant is not allergic to nuts), there is no high-quality clinical research demonstrating that almond oil, specifically, has a direct therapeutic effect on colic beyond its use as a massage medium. Therefore, its use in this context is primarily supported by tradition rather than scientific validation.
