Morus, commonly known as mulberry, has a long history of use in traditional medicine, particularly within Chinese and other East Asian medical systems. Traditional healers have employed various parts of the mulberry plant—including its fruit, leaves, and bark—for a wide range of ailments, including liver-related disorders. In the context of cirrhosis of the liver, morus has been prescribed to "nourish the liver," "clear heat," and "improve blood circulation" according to traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) theory. Some formulations use morus as a supportive ingredient in herbal blends intended to relieve symptoms associated with liver dysfunction, such as fatigue, jaundice, and edema.

However, the scientific evidence supporting the efficacy of morus for treating cirrhosis is limited. While laboratory studies have identified antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and hepatoprotective compounds in mulberry extracts, these findings are largely preliminary and derived from animal models or in vitro experiments. There is a lack of robust clinical trials in humans demonstrating clear benefits of morus in cirrhosis patients. As such, its use for this condition is rooted primarily in tradition rather than modern scientific validation. Patients should consult healthcare professionals before using morus as a supplement for liver disease.
