Eggs are a well-known dietary source of nutrients relevant to cardiovascular health, including high-quality protein, vitamins (such as B12 and D), minerals (such as selenium), and bioactive compounds like choline and lutein. Historically, eggs were restricted in diets out of concern for their cholesterol content and perceived negative impact on heart health. However, recent scientific studies have revisited this issue. Large-scale epidemiological studies and meta-analyses have shown that moderate egg consumption (up to one egg per day) is not associated with increased risk of heart disease in healthy individuals. Some evidence even suggests that eggs may have a neutral or mildly beneficial effect on lipid profiles for most people, likely due to their content of unsaturated fats and micronutrients.
Nonetheless, evidence supporting eggs as a direct supporter of the circulatory system is limited. While eggs provide nutrients important for circulatory health, such as folate and choline (which may help reduce homocysteine levels, a risk factor for cardiovascular disease), the direct clinical benefits specifically for circulatory system function remain modest and somewhat controversial, especially in populations with pre-existing conditions like diabetes or hyperlipidemia. Overall, scientific validation exists for eggs being part of a balanced diet that can support circulatory health, but the evidence is not strong enough to consider eggs a primary therapeutic food for this body system.
