Lumbrokinase is a group of enzymes extracted from earthworms (most commonly Lumbricus rubellus) and has been studied primarily in China for its fibrinolytic (clot-dissolving) properties. Its use for circulation, particularly for poor circulation due to blood clot risk or hypercoagulable states, is based on its ability to enhance the breakdown of fibrin, a protein involved in blood clot formation.

There are several small clinical trials and animal studies suggesting that lumbrokinase can reduce blood viscosity, dissolve thrombi, and improve microcirculation. For example, a few Chinese studies have investigated its use in patients with ischemic stroke or cardiovascular disease, reporting improvements in blood flow parameters and some clinical outcomes. However, most published studies are limited by small sample sizes, lack of rigorous blinding, and being published in non-English journals, making them difficult to fully assess for quality.

Systematic reviews and meta-analyses are limited, and major Western regulatory bodies do not recognize lumbrokinase as a standard treatment for poor circulation or thrombotic disease. Despite this, there is a plausible scientific mechanism and some preliminary evidence supporting its potential benefit for circulatory health, especially in reducing clot risk. However, more robust, well-controlled clinical trials are needed to establish efficacy and safety conclusively. Therefore, the evidence rating is 2 out of 5—promising but still preliminary.
