Antler horn, also known as deer antler velvet, has been used in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) for centuries. In TCM, it is believed to "tonify the kidney and liver," "nourish vital essence and blood," and strengthen yang energy. One of its many traditional indications is to improve circulation, especially in cases described as "deficiency of blood" or "cold limbs due to poor circulation." These claims are largely based on empirical use and the energetic theories of Chinese medicine rather than on scientific validation.
Scientific research on antler horn's effects on human circulation is limited and largely inconclusive. Most available studies are animal-based or performed in vitro, and focus on other proposed benefits such as immune modulation, joint health, or athletic performance. There is minimal clinical or mechanistic evidence in peer-reviewed literature directly supporting its use for improving poor circulation in humans. Therefore, while antler horn is traditionally used for this purpose, the overall quality and quantity of evidence supporting its effectiveness for circulation is low.
