Evidence supporting the use of: China Rose
For the health condition: Chills
Synopsis
Source of validity: Traditional
Rating (out of 5): 1
China Rose (Hibiscus rosa-sinensis) has been used in various traditional medicine systems, particularly in Ayurveda and Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), primarily for conditions such as fever, cough, and skin ailments. There is some traditional use of China Rose for managing symptoms associated with chills, but it is usually as part of broader applications for fever or “cooling” the body. In these traditions, chills are often understood as part of a febrile illness, and herbs believed to have antipyretic (fever-reducing) or diaphoretic (promoting sweating) properties were used to manage both fever and chills. China Rose was sometimes included among such remedies, though it is not a predominant or highly recognized herb for chills specifically.
From a scientific standpoint, there is very limited evidence supporting the use of China Rose for chills. Some laboratory studies suggest mild antipyretic and anti-inflammatory effects, but clinical studies in humans are lacking. The traditional use rating is therefore low (1 out of 5), reflecting scarce documentation and a lack of targeted application for chills apart from its inclusion in broader fever remedies. No high-quality, modern trials substantiate its use for this indication.
