Synopsis

Source of validity: Traditional
Rating (out of 5): 1

Arisaema amurense, known as Chinese cobra lily, has a long history of use in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). In the TCM framework, the tuber of Arisaema species (often processed as "Tian Nan Xing") is used primarily to dispel "wind-phlegm" and treat conditions such as cough, dizziness, and convulsions. Its use for "chills" is indirect; some TCM practitioners might apply it in formulas intended to resolve phlegm or relieve cold-type (yang-deficiency) symptoms, but it is not a mainstream or well-documented herb specifically for chills. Scientific literature does not support the direct use of Arisaema amurense for chills, nor are there robust clinical trials validating its efficacy for this purpose. Most references to its use come from classical TCM texts and herbal compendia. The evidence base is therefore largely anecdotal and rooted in tradition, without rigorous pharmacological or clinical validation for treating chills as understood in modern medicine. For this reason, the rating of evidence is low, reflecting the absence of direct scientific support.
