Synopsis

Source of validity: Traditional
Rating (out of 5): 1

Ghee, a clarified butter widely used in South Asian cuisine and Ayurvedic medicine, has traditional applications for a variety of health conditions, including chest pain. In Ayurveda, ghee is regarded as a nourishing and soothing substance believed to balance bodily humors (doshas) and support heart health. Some traditional Ayurvedic texts mention ghee as an ingredient in formulations for heart or chest discomfort, often combined with herbs or other substances to "lubricate" tissues and reduce inflammation or pain.

However, there is minimal direct scientific evidence supporting the use of ghee for treating or relieving chest pain. Most references to ghee in this context are within the framework of traditional medicine, rather than modern clinical research. In fact, excessive consumption of ghee may increase dietary saturated fat intake, which is generally discouraged in individuals with heart disease or at risk of chest pain (angina) due to coronary artery disease. Therefore, while ghee's use for chest pain is rooted in historical tradition, it is not validated by scientific studies, and modern medical practice does not recommend it as a treatment for chest pain.
