Platinum is not used as a supplement to support or reduce the side effects of chemotherapy; rather, platinum compounds themselves (such as cisplatin, carboplatin, and oxaliplatin) are among the most widely used chemotherapy agents for treating various types of cancer. The scientific justification for their use is robust and well-documented. These platinum-based drugs work by forming DNA crosslinks in cancer cells, which interferes with DNA repair and replication, leading to cell death. Their effectiveness has been demonstrated in large-scale clinical trials and they are a mainstay in the treatment protocols for cancers such as testicular, ovarian, lung, and colorectal cancers.

However, platinum compounds themselves are associated with significant side effects (e.g., nephrotoxicity, neurotoxicity, nausea), not the prevention or reduction of side effects from chemotherapy. There is no scientific or traditional evidence suggesting that "platinum" as an ingredient or supplement is used to support chemotherapy or mitigate its side effects. In summary, platinum’s role in chemotherapy is as an active cytotoxic agent, not as a supportive therapy.
