Evidence supporting the use of: Cannabigerol
For the health condition: Chemotherapy (reducing side effects)
Synopsis
Source of validity: Scientific
Rating (out of 5): 1
Cannabigerol (CBG) is a non-psychoactive cannabinoid found in Cannabis sativa. Its use to support or treat chemotherapy side effects is primarily under investigation, with limited but emerging scientific evidence. Most research to date has focused on cannabinoids like THC and CBD for managing chemotherapy-induced nausea, vomiting, and loss of appetite. CBG has demonstrated anti-inflammatory, neuroprotective, and appetite-stimulating effects in preclinical (animal and in vitro) studies, but there are no high-quality human trials directly evaluating its efficacy for chemotherapy side effects.
Some preclinical evidence suggests that CBG may help stimulate appetite and reduce inflammation, which could theoretically benefit patients undergoing chemotherapy. However, these findings have not yet translated into clinical recommendations. While anecdotal use exists, and CBG is sometimes included in cannabis extracts used by cancer patients, there is currently insufficient scientific validation for its effectiveness specifically in the context of chemotherapy side effect management.
In summary, CBG's use in this area is supported by preclinical research but lacks robust clinical evidence. More studies, including randomized controlled trials in humans, are needed before CBG can be recommended for this purpose.
