Grapeseed oil is sometimes promoted for cardiovascular health due to its high content of polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs), particularly linoleic acid, and vitamin E (tocopherol). Scientific evidence supporting its use is limited and mostly comes from small-scale studies. Some research indicates that replacing saturated fats with PUFAs, such as those found in grapeseed oil, may help lower LDL cholesterol, a known risk factor for cardiovascular disease. However, direct studies on grapeseed oil itself are sparse.
A few small clinical trials suggest grapeseed oil supplementation might modestly reduce blood pressure and improve lipid profiles, but these effects are inconsistent and not well-established. Larger, well-designed clinical trials are lacking. Most of the purported benefits are extrapolated from the general health effects of PUFAs, rather than grapeseed oil specifically. Major health organizations, such as the American Heart Association, recognize the benefit of unsaturated fats but do not specifically recommend grapeseed oil over other sources.
