Synopsis

Source of validity: Scientific
Rating (out of 5): 2

Hesperetin is a flavonoid aglycone derived from hesperidin, found predominantly in citrus fruits. Its use to support capillary health and the vascular system has some scientific basis, though the evidence is limited and mostly preclinical. Several in vitro and animal studies suggest hesperetin possesses antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and vasoprotective properties. These attributes theoretically benefit capillary integrity by reducing oxidative stress and inflammation, both of which can compromise capillary structure and function. Some studies indicate hesperetin can improve endothelial function, inhibit capillary permeability, and reduce microvascular leakage, which are relevant to capillary health.

However, there is a relative paucity of high-quality clinical trials in humans specifically demonstrating hesperetin’s efficacy for capillary support. Most available human research focuses on broader cardiovascular outcomes, and often uses hesperidin (the glycosylated form) rather than hesperetin. Nonetheless, hesperidin-containing formulations have been used in Europe for chronic venous insufficiency and hemorrhoidal disease, indirectly supporting the rationale for hesperetin’s vascular benefits. Overall, the scientific evidence is promising but not robust, meriting a moderate evidence rating for capillary support.
