Synopsis

Source of validity: Scientific
Rating (out of 5): 4

Grapes, particularly grape seeds and skins, are rich in polyphenols such as proanthocyanidins and resveratrol, compounds that have been extensively studied for their effects on vascular health, including capillary function. Scientific studies indicate that grape seed extract (GSE) can strengthen capillary walls, reduce capillary permeability, and improve microcirculation. Clinical trials have shown that supplementation with GSE can help alleviate symptoms of chronic venous insufficiency and reduce edema, bruising, and swelling by supporting capillary integrity and function. The mechanism is believed to be related to the antioxidant activity of grape polyphenols, which protect endothelial cells from oxidative stress and inflammation, both of which can compromise capillary strength. Meta-analyses and randomized controlled trials (RCTs) have generally found positive effects of grape-derived compounds on blood vessel health, although more research is needed to determine optimal dosing and long-term safety. In summary, there is substantial scientific validation for the use of grape extracts, especially grape seed extract, in supporting capillary health.
