Vitamin B6 (pyridoxine) has been used traditionally to support or treat symptoms of burning feet or hands, conditions often associated with neuropathy. Historically, the "burning feet syndrome" was described during the 1940s, particularly among malnourished prisoners of war, and was linked to deficiencies in B vitamins, including B6. Supplementation with B vitamins, especially in deficient individuals, sometimes resulted in symptom improvement. This led to a lasting tradition of recommending vitamin B6 for neuropathic symptoms such as burning sensations in the extremities.

Scientifically, vitamin B6 is essential for nerve health, and deficiency can lead to peripheral neuropathy, which may manifest as burning, tingling, or numbness in the hands and feet. However, robust clinical trials specifically evaluating vitamin B6 supplementation for burning feet or hands in non-deficient populations are lacking. Most evidence is anecdotal or based on case reports, and some studies suggest that both deficiency and excess of B6 can cause neuropathic symptoms.

While vitamin B6 supplementation may be justified in cases of confirmed deficiency, its use in the general population or for idiopathic burning feet/hands lacks strong scientific support. Care should be taken, as excessive supplementation can itself cause or worsen neuropathy.
