Rating (out of 5): 2

Oldenlandia (often referring to Oldenlandia diffusa, also known as Hedyotis diffusa or Bai Hua She She Cao in Traditional Chinese Medicine) has a long history of use in Asia for a variety of inflammatory and infectious conditions, including what is called "blood poisoning" (a lay term often referring to sepsis or serious systemic infection). Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) employs Oldenlandia as a "heat-clearing" and "detoxifying" herb, believed to help remove toxins from the blood and reduce fever and swelling associated with infections. Classical texts and ethnobotanical records document its use for boils, carbuncles, abscesses, and other signs of systemic or severe localized infection.

However, scientific validation for its specific efficacy in treating sepsis or "blood poisoning" is limited. Some laboratory and animal studies show that extracts of Oldenlandia possess anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, and immunomodulatory effects, which could theoretically confer benefit. Yet, there are no high-quality clinical trials demonstrating its effectiveness in treating blood poisoning in humans. Thus, while its use is justified by tradition and supported by some preclinical evidence, rigorous scientific confirmation is lacking.

In summary, Oldenlandia is used in traditional medicine for conditions associated with "blood poisoning," but its direct efficacy and safety for this serious condition remain primarily supported by tradition rather than robust clinical science.
