Evidence supporting the use of: Indian Sarsparilla
For the health condition: Blood Poisoning
Synopsis
Source of validity: Traditional
Rating (out of 5): 1
Indian Sarsaparilla (Hemidesmus indicus) has been used traditionally in Ayurvedic medicine to treat a variety of ailments, including conditions associated with "impure blood" or blood poisoning. The concept of "blood purification" is common in several traditional medical systems, where sarsaparilla is believed to help cleanse toxins from the bloodstream and thereby support recovery from infections or systemic inflammation. However, these uses are based on historical and ethnobotanical reports rather than modern clinical evidence.
Scientific studies on Indian Sarsaparilla have shown some antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties in vitro and in animal models, but there is no direct clinical evidence supporting its effectiveness in treating blood poisoning (sepsis) in humans. The rating of "1" reflects the fact that while traditional use is strong, scientific validation is extremely limited and does not directly address blood poisoning as understood in modern medicine. Therefore, its use for this condition remains primarily traditional rather than scientifically validated.
