San-Qi Ginseng (Panax notoginseng), also known as "Tianqi" or "Sanchi," has a long history of use in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) primarily for the treatment and prevention of blood clots, as well as for promoting blood circulation and stopping bleeding. Traditional texts describe its use for “invigorating the blood,” “removing blood stasis,” and “stopping bleeding,” which are interpreted in modern terms as effects on hemostasis and thrombosis. The roots of Panax notoginseng contain bioactive saponins (notoginsenosides) believed to influence coagulation pathways.

While the traditional use is well established, some modern pharmacological studies have begun to investigate these claims. In vitro and animal studies have reported that extracts of San-Qi Ginseng may have antithrombotic effects by inhibiting platelet aggregation and modulating blood coagulation factors. However, robust clinical trials in humans are lacking, and its efficacy for blood clot prevention in modern medicine remains to be conclusively established. Thus, while the use of San-Qi Ginseng for blood clot prevention is strongly supported by tradition and preliminary scientific findings, high-quality human evidence is limited, justifying a moderate evidence rating.

In summary, San-Qi Ginseng is traditionally used to support and prevent blood clots, with a growing but still preliminary scientific basis for these uses.
